In 1984 Mark finished college after attending Chico State University and Saint Mary’s College of Morago. In June of that year Mark was hired by Bishop Hawk Commercial Real Estate and earned “Rookie of the Year” for all the companies eight offices located throughout California in his first year. In 1986 Mark joined Colliers International Commercial Real Estate where he was consistently a top producer in the Walnut Creek and Sacramento offices. In 1991 Mark was awarded the Top Producer Company wide. In 1992 Mark joined Ingram Commercial Real Estate, and was the Top Producer every year till 1998.
In 1998 Mark co-founded Main and Main Investments and Main and Main Properties, and they became the most productive Retail Development Company North of Sacramento. Successfully developing some one hundred million dollars worth of Class A Retail Development, where Mark was solely responsible for site selection, site design, entitlements, lease negotiations, construction, and Landlord delivery. In 2012 Mark and Kurt created a new partnership which was then followed up by a new brand called Sutter Retail Development.

Kurt has 34 years of building construction experience. He has been at the helm of Hilbers since 1983. Since then, he has helped develop the company into a $115,000,000 annual business. Kurt has extensive experience working directly with owners and developers on pre-construction services, land acquisitions, design to full project development. Kurt presently sits on the National Advisory Councils for Building God’s Way and Butler Manufacturing Company, playing an active role on the continued success of both organizations.
Over the last 15 years, Kurt and his partners have developed over 1 million square feet of properties which include, but not limited to, the following:
- 48,000 sq ft Live In Mental Facility
- (4) 100,000 sq ft Mini Storage Facilities
- Over (10) Dialysis Centers ranging in size from 6k-22k sq ft
- 60,000 sq ft of Class A Office Space in the Pocket Area of Sacramento CA
- Design & Developed Sutter Buttes Marketplace in Yuba City CA : a 60,000 sq ft shopping Center with Grocery Outlet, Cool Hand Luke’s and Starbucks as anchors
- Developed a 35,000 sq ft of mixed use retail in Dixon CA
Among other things, Kurt serves on the board at River Valley Community Bank. His group also has several investments in hotels, a farming venture in Vacaville CA and is a majority owner of 159 residential lots in the Edgewater subdivision in Linda CA.
As Hilbers Inc. has demonstrated remarkable growth over the past 20 years, Kurt’s role too has changed. Kurt served as project manager to several of our current clients and their respective projects in the “early” years. With the high degree of responsibility necessary to lead a growing company in a difficult construction environment, Kurt’s role has now shifted to areas more associated with quality control, client relationships and ensuring that our projects are being supervised and managed properly. In short, Kurt’s role is not limited to a specific project. Kurt is very active in virtually all Hilbers projects – from contract execution, to project supervision and management to cost savings solutions.

Kristen brings a history of success to Sutter Retail Development. She has been a successful small business owner and real estate broker for almost 20 years. She is an energetic, organized, and hardworking professional business woman. She demonstrates excellent communication skills, challenges issues head on, and works effectively in our fast paced environment.
Kristen assists both Mark Norton and Kurt Hilbers on all development dealings. She has knowledge in commercial real estate, lease administration, and project management. She is also quickly becoming proficient in corporate lease documents with the ability to read and comprehend legal contracts.
